Kehoe Beach is the northernmost stretch of the Great Beach of Point Reyes. A short hike from Pierce Point Road leads you past a freshwater marsh and through a thick growth of wildflowers in the spring. As you near the dunes, the yellow bush lupine paints the landscape in color and the trail turns to sand. Once you descend the final hill you're free to explore a gorgeous beach. To the north Kehoe Beach is backed by the stone cliffs of Tomales Point, and to the south 11 miles of the Great Beach lined with sand dunes will take you to the Lighthouse.

The great thing about these birds is that you can find them on almost any hike you take. While I don't often go searching specifically for them on a trip, it's a wonderful bonus when they pick a perch right along the trail, and even more so when they start to sing!

While they may look a bit like a house cat at times, they are efficient predators of small rodents and sometimes larger prey. While these wild cats are typically quite secretive, the population that resides in Tennessee Valley in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Marin County, California has become rather used to watching the many hikers walk the trails each day. This can be a real treat for the wildlife watcher, since many of the individual cats are quite willing to hunt right along the trails in the park.
