The Bear Valley Visitor's Center in Point Reyes National Seashore has a resident colony of acorn woodpeckers (Melanerpes formicivorus) that maintain a granary tree in the picnic area. Often, you have to crane your neck to watch them in the higher areas of the tree but on this day, it was at eye level for me. Image taken in Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California.
