Short-billed dowitcher in breeding plumage
A short-billed dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus) in breeding plumage feeds at Pillar Point Harbor on Half Moon Bay, California. While it can be difficult to tell the short-billed and long-billed dowitchers apart, it's easier in breeding plumage since the short-billed often has spots on the edges of the breast, as well as a bit of white on the belly.
